What to wear for a meeting with your bank manager?

Image Consultant Sharon Connolly reveals how to make the right impression when you visit the man/woman holding the cash.

"What you should wear depends on why you are visiting, but here are some ideas and suggestions"

Firstly make sure your clothing choices need to be appropriate to your industry - as a web designer you won't look representative of your skills in a somber suit - as solicitor jeans are inappropriate. Dress in the way you would if you were meeting a client. I'd always advise a jacket though.

Your colour choice will be very important. If you need to look authoritative, - perhaps you are unhappy with the service, or their charges then you are going to need to wear high contrast colours. Your best dark colour, teamed with your best light pastel will assert your authority.

Perhaps you're visiting for a financial review or to discuss a business plan, you want to come across as more approachable, choose medium depth colours to make you look more of a team player.

If you are going in to pitch this new "off the wall, wacky" idea then you need to look creative. You'll need to choose some of your best bright colours so you look totally confident. If you are a bit reserved then knowing what colours suit you can help you to fake the confidence till you feel it.

And finally immaculate grooming. Taking care of hair, make-up and the fine details like shoes, bag, notepad and classy pen give the impression of someone who cares, takes pride, and looks after the small stuff. It'll give the impression that your cheque books are balanced, you look after the pennies....Picture an immaculately groomed dressed chic French - does she look like the sort of person who gets late charges on her credit card bills!
